IsraelCast Episode 140

Mitchell Davis, Ph.D.

Israel has recently been making major strides in the culinary world. Israeli cuisine has become increasingly popular, and the country has produced some of the world’s most prestigious chefs. And Israel’s culinary reach will only expand with the upcoming opening of the Galilee Culinary Institute (GCI by JNF), Jewish National Fund-USA’s cutting-edge new culinary school. Host Steven Shalowitz sits down with Mitchell Davis, host of GCI by JNF’s podcast, “What’s Burning,” to discuss the important role food plays in society, how Israeli cuisine has evolved over the years, and how GCI by JNF will revolutionize the culinary world.

Mitchell Davis is the founder of the consultancy Kitchen Sense, LLC, a laboratory for creative food content and innovative approaches to food-system issues. Previously, Davis worked at the James Beard Foundation for almost 27 years, most recently as Chief Strategy Officer, where he created and oversaw many of the Foundation’s most impactful initiatives, including the annual JBF Food Summit, a national dialogue of thought leaders on sustainability and public health, and the JBF Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership program, intended to correct the gender imbalance in leadership in the restaurant industry. Davis also hosts the “What’s Burning” podcast, the official podcast of Jewish National Fund-USA’s Galilee Culinary Institute.
