Southern Israel is emerging as a hub for innovative space technology. The region's cutting-edge developments are pushing the boundaries of what is possible beyond Earth. Pioneering diverse space technologies are redefining the possibilities for human exploration beyond Earth. From artificial intelligence health monitors to carbon-neutral air conditioning systems, the region's space innovations span diverse fields. These technologies, including underground robotics and advanced pathogen protection, are expanding the possibilities for sustainable human presence beyond Earth.

The most coveted accelerator for space technology developments, recently launched in the space and star-gazing city of Mitzpe Ramon announces the promising companies it will promote in hopes of integration into the Artemis project.

The Jewish National Fund-USA Hub was officially opened on March 19, 2024

Dr. Roi Naor, CEO of Creation-Space: "Israeli technologies in space are not only an important milestone for Israeli high-tech but also a tremendous Zionist achievement."

Israel, known worldwide as the Startup Nation and a leader in satellite technology, aspires to lead in innovation not just on and around Earth - but also in deep space. That is why the unique EXPAND space accelerator was recently launched at Jewish National Fund-USA’s Tech-Hub in the city.

Created by the Israeli company Creation-Space and the Tech7 innovation community, its goal is to prepare for integrating blue and white technologies into NASA's Artemis program for Moon and Mars exploration and settlement.

Out of more than 50 Israeli startups wanting to participate in humanity's next giant leap, only five companies were selected. They will receive professional guidance from senior figures in the space industry from Israel and worldwide and will be candidates for financial support. The hope is that some of the technologies developed will advance human efforts for outer space settlement and help solve environmental and climatic challenges on Earth.

The selected companies:

1. Tedence Space – Aims to make human life in space safer. Terence Space is developing an innovative medical platform that hopes to revolutionize human health by using artificial intelligence to analyze extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMF) to diagnose and protect people in space.

2. Omnidrill – Developing underground robotic technologies as sustainable solutions for infrastructure on Earth and, in the future, on the Moon and Mars.

3. Inhayle – Developing hydroxyl-based surface disinfection technology that can operate safely around people. This innovation aims to reduce hospital-acquired infections on Earth while also maintaining cleanliness in space stations and helping balance atmospheres in future off-world colonies.

4. OASIX – Developing a revolutionary system for supplying heating and cooling to buildings, backed by unique thermal storage technology. The system is based on a climate-protected, carbon-free heat pump with high efficiency and significant savings in operating costs in all weather conditions.

5. NOVAlert – Aspires to revolutionize health and early diagnosis by developing sensors for smart monitoring of physiological conditions through clothing (without direct contact) to detect and warn of dysfunction due to fatigue or medical events.

"This groundbreaking Israeli entrepreneurship contributes not only to advancing science and technology but also strengthens Israel's position as a global leader in the commercial space sector," says Dr. Roi Naor, CEO of Creation-Space. "Promoting Israeli technologies in space is not just an important milestone for Israeli high-tech but will also be a tremendous Zionist achievement and strengthen the Startup Nation brand."

Dr. Naor adds: "The space sector in Israel has recently begun to expand beyond expertise in satellite technology, and we can see the beginnings of activity in developing technologies that support deep space exploration and human life beyond Earth. It is no longer just a fascinating scientific adventure but also a tremendous opportunity for technological and social progress. Thanks to its unique capabilities and entrepreneurial spirit, Israel can take a central role in this global effort that is so important for the future of humanity."

The five companies were announced during the accelerator's launch event, which was held in Mitzpe Ramon, with the support of Jewish National Fund-USA and the American investment fund CreationsVC.

The event featured a lineup of notable speakers and panelists, highlighting expertise from various sectors. Uri Oron, Director of the Israel Space Agency, discussed Israel's space industry journey and prospects. Dr. Roi Naor, CEO of Creation-Space, explored space innovation, its impact on terrestrial life, and the potential contributions of Israel and the Negev region. A panel discussion on technological innovation and employment growth in the Negev brought together diverse perspectives. Panelists included Ofir Cahani, advisor to the CEO of the Ministry of the Negev and Galilee; Ronen Yehoshua, CEO of cybersecurity firm Morphisec; Elinor Jacobson from the Ministry of Economy's Growth Authority; and Oren Hefetz, Project Manager at Jewish National Fund-USA. This assembly of experts shared valuable insights on the intersection of space technology, regional development, and economic growth.

Uri Oron, Director of the Israel Space Agency at the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology said: "The launch of the accelerator, which the agency advises, is further evidence of the development of the space sector in Israel. Mitzpe Ramon and its surroundings attract entrepreneurs' imagination and future ideas in Israel and worldwide. The Space Agency is also proud to continue accompanying the accelerator in the future."

Oren Hefetz, Business Development Director, Jewish National Fund-USA said: "The launch of the accelerator is another significant step towards realizing Jewish National Fund-USA's vision for developing the Negev and creating new business and employment opportunities. We aspire to nurture promising startups and entrepreneurs, providing them with the necessary resources, guidance, and support to turn their ideas into successful ventures. By encouraging such initiatives, we are actively contributing to the economic development of the Negev region, creating new avenues for employment and attracting talent to communities in the area."

Steve Braverman, Manager of CreationsVC investment fund said: "CreationsVC is proud and excited to support Creation-Space's work, including this critical initiative of the Expand accelerator program. Identifying innovative technologies that support 'life in space,' combined with a focus on climate efficiency in harsh and unique environments, will help improve space efforts and address challenges here on Earth that require new thinking and innovative approaches. This is the perfect time to empower Israeli innovation!"
