JNF-USA Improves Access to Medical Care in Israel’s Galilee

PITTSBUGH, Pa., November 12, 2021 — As part of Jewish National Fund-USA’s (JNF-USA) One Billion Dollar Roadmap for the Next Decade, JNF-USA is developing new communities in Israel’s Galilee region — including the city of Kiryat Shmona, which has experienced unprecedented population growth over the last decade.

Upon seeing an uptick in families relocating to Israel's northernmost city and identifying significant gaps in healthcare, JNF-USA stepped in to improve the quality of life for residents in the area; helping to establish much-needed medical services including urgent care, X-Rays and imaging, pediatrics, and a 24-hour pharmacy.

On November 3, 2021, JNF-USA’s Women for Israel in Western PA hosted an event at a private residence in Pittsburgh where community members learned about how JNF-USA and donors in Western Pennsylvania are helping to provide life-changing medical services to women, children, and families, as well as JNF-USA’s role in the construction of the Kiryat Shmona Medical Center, which will provide medical care for the region’s thousands of new residents.

“Israel’s population cannot continue to remain concentrated in the Tel Aviv-Haifa-Jerusalem Corridor, so a vibrant north should be an attractive frontier for Israeli families,” said Sheryl Buchholtz, RN, Assistant Vice President, JNF-USA National Board, who was the featured guest speaker at the event. “JNF-USA understands that in order to attract and retain more residents, healthcare services and medical facilities need to be established so that families continue to see this area as a desirable place to settle down, grow, and thrive.”

Participants also learned about JNF-USA’s other important projects supporting employment, tourism and population growth in the Galilee, including the Galilee Culinary Institute by JNF and the Margalit Startup City Galil – the International Foodtech Center developed in conjunction with JNF-USA which focuses on food tech and agritech innovation, as well as other projects improving life for the land and people of Israel.
